Shipping Channel Letters Internationally: Packing and Handover Considerations

An international channel-letter shipment is an installation set, not simply a box of letters. The receiver needs to identify each character, its position, its electrical branch and any separate mounting or power components. Build that identification into packing while the factory still has the complete set assembled.

Reconcile the set before packing

Compare the letters with the approved layout, including repeated characters and separate logo elements. Mark identifiers where they can be read without affecting the finished appearance. Record which items are shipped assembled and which need local assembly.

Protect letters without loading their faces

Identify delicate returns, projecting studs and cable tails. Keep letters from moving against each other and separate hardware from visible surfaces. Large letters may need individual support rather than being stacked. Agree how the receiver should remove restraints and protective coverings.

Connect the electrical and mounting references

Label supplied power components and cable groups against the wiring information. Include the approved mounting template or agreed digital equivalent and its scale-check dimension. Identify any items supplied locally so an installer does not mistake an intentionally excluded component for a packing shortage.

Prepare a receiver-friendly document set

Use one carton list that maps sign codes to contents and quantities. Provide the final drawing revision, packing photographs and relevant component documentation. Confirm receiving access and shipment dimensions with the logistics parties before dispatch; the installation date should be planned from the complete route, not fabrication completion alone.

Buyer review checklist

  • Complete letter and logo inventory
  • Identifiers for repeated characters
  • Face, stud and cable protection
  • Power and mounting references
  • Carton-to-drawing mapping
  • Receiving access and inspection plan

Should letters be packed in reading order?

That can help, but handling and protection may require another arrangement. The essential requirement is an unambiguous mapping between each packed component and the approved layout.
