Custom Channel Letters for U.S. Projects: Manufacturing and Installer Handover
For a U.S. channel-letter project, establish the local sign, electrical and installation requirements before the factory releases the construction. The buyer needs a traceable product package and a local team responsible for the building interface. Do not infer finished-sign approval from a logo on an individual power supply.
Identify the project authority and scope
Provide the city and site address to the local project team and confirm who handles the applicable reviews. Keep landlord approval, product documentation and installation approval as separate items. Give the manufacturer a written requirement list instead of asking for a generic “U.S. version.”
Check the evidence behind electrical claims
UL Solutions distinguishes electric-sign certification under UL 48 from sign-component services involving UL 879 and retrofit kits under UL 879A. Ask what evidence covers the ordered construction and verify any claimed listing with the relevant certification body. These references do not establish a PridLED certification.

Align drawings with the installer’s needs
Agree the controlling units and show mounting positions, cable exits, supplied components and the local connection boundary. If drawings include both metric and imperial dimensions, identify the controlling values and avoid independent rounding of critical interfaces. Have the local team verify anchorage and building conditions.
Deliver a traceable installation set
Label letters, templates and power components against the released drawing. Include relevant product documentation and identify excluded local materials. Retain the approved and as-built records for maintenance or later replacement.
Buyer review checklist
- Site-specific review responsibilities
- Evidence for finished-product claims
- Controlling drawing units
- Verified mounting and power interface
- Identified shipment and documents
- As-built service record
Is a UL-recognized power supply the same as a UL-listed sign?
No. Component recognition and finished-sign certification cover different scopes. Verify the exact product and claim with the responsible certification body.
