Front-Lit vs Halo-Lit Channel Letters: Which Is Right for You?
Front-lit channel letters are bright and affordable. Halo-lit (reverse) letters create a premium wall glow. Compare cost, visibility and best use cases.
Choosing between front-lit and halo-lit channel letters comes down to budget, location and the aesthetic you want. Here's how they compare.
Front-Lit Channel Letters
LED modules shine through the acrylic face, making the letter itself the light source. This is the most common and cost-effective option. Best for: storefronts, shopping centers, signs that need to be visible from 50+ meters.
Halo-Lit (Reverse) Channel Letters
LED modules face the wall, creating a soft glow around the letter outline. This looks premium and architectural. Best for: office buildings, upscale retail, lobbies, reception areas. Requires a smooth, light-colored wall surface for the best effect.
Dual-Lit Channel Letters
Both front and halo lighting. Maximum visibility and impact. Higher cost and more power draw. Best for: flagship stores, 24-hour businesses, signs in competitive signage environments.
Cost Difference
Front-lit is the lowest cost. Halo-lit adds 15-25% for additional LED modules and wiring. Dual-lit adds 30-40%. For most retail and restaurant storefronts, front-lit is the best value.
